Gwalior, Mar 9 (PTI) The performance of Bollywood
actress and Bharat Natyam danseuse Hema Malini and her
daughter Ahana enthralled audiences at the concluding day of
Gwalior Heritage Festival here today.
Thousands of people remained glued to their seats at
the 19th century Moti Mahal palace as the 'Dream Girl' gave
her performance.
Ahana Deol started with an Odissi recital of 'Ganesh
Stuti' followed by Hema Malini's performance.
The tone of the evening was set by iconic Ustad Rahid
Khan, doyen of Hindustani vocal music as he rendered 'Raag
puriya'.
He was accompanied by the famous talents of Dagar
Gharana including Padam Shri recipient Mehmud Dholpuri on
harmonium, Subhankar Banerjee Tabla, Murad Ali, son and
disciple of Ustad Gulam Sabir Khan from Moradabad Gharana was
at Sarangi.
Rahid Khan is perfect epitome of the Rampur Sahaswan
Khayal Gharana style. Nadeem Khan, younger Rahid Khan and Neel
Madhav were on tanpura.
This was followed by an electrifying laser show based
on the theme of A R Rehman composition 'Ma Tughe Salam'.
The first-ever three-day Gwalior Heritage Festival,
organised by the Gwalior Heritage Foundation, was formed by
Jyotiraditya Scindia to promote the natural, cultural and
architectural heritage of the city.
The festival also showcased the renovation of 'Moti
Mahal Palace' and 'Baija Taal' which was built in 19th century
during the reign of Maharaja Jyotirao Scindia.
"It has been our tradition to promote culture and
national heritage of the city. This is just a step forward
towards determination to promote music," said Congress MP and
scion of the royal family of Gwalior Jyotiraditya Scindia at
the conclusion of the festival.
The festival ended with a fabulous show of fire works
lighting up the Gwalior sky.
