Cosmic-confluence of music strings Gwalior

Gwalior, Mar 8 (PTI) The best of both the worlds came
together on one stage as the first Gwalior Heritage Festival
started here in a grand style.
Noted Hindustani vocalist of 'Gwalior Gharana' Pandit
Laxman Krishna Rao mesmerised the audience with "Raag Asad"
and followed it up with "Raag Durbari", "Ghoonghat Ke Pat
Khol" and the "Trupti Taal" in the inaugural evening of the
festival yesterday.
The artists performed on a wooden platform set up on
'Baija Taal' (pond) at the Moti Mahal Palace here as laser
beams provided the backdrop.
Inaugurating the cultural fest, Women and Child
Development Minister Renuka Chowdhury said the festival will
go a long way in taking the 'Gwalior Gharana' tradition
forward.
"This is a nice effort and a good festival. This festival
will also attract tourists and art lovers to this historic
city," Chowdhury said.
The noteworthy performers of the evening were the
classical singer of the Gwalior Gharana Mita Pandit and Begum
Parveen Sultana.
"This initiative has been taken to relive the magic and
celebrate together the history of Gwalior's cultural
tradition. This festival will showcase the rich musical and
cultural legacy of this historic city," Congress MP and scion
of the royal family of Gwalior Jyotiraditya Scindia said.
"We will try to make this an annual event," he said.
The evening concluded with soul-stirring compositions by
the fusion band 'Mrigya'.
The Moti Mahal Palace, which was built in the 19th
century during the reign of Maharaja Jayajirao Scindia, has
been opened after completion of renovation work.
The Maharani of Gwalior Madhavi Raje Scindia was also
present during the event.
