Govt to transfer over 100 middle-level bureaucrats


New Delhi, June 18, 2012: The government has decided to
transfer over 100 under secretaries working in one ministry
for over seven years as part of its rotation policy aimed at
increasing efficiency in the bureaucracy.
Of the total 108 such officials, highest of nine are from
Ministry of Home Affairs, followed by eight from Defence
ministry, six from Ministry of Rural Development and four each
from ministries of Civil Aviation, Commerce, Health and Family
Welfare and Department of Revenue.
Besides, three officials each from Coal and Environment
and Forests ministries, Industrial Police and Promotion,
Posts, Shipping, Social Justice and Empowerment, and Textiles
departments will also being rotated to different ministries,
according to a list issued by Department of Personnel and
Training.
"Those on the lists have been asked to give their
preferences for new postings if any by the month end failing
which the government would go ahead with the transfers," a
DoPT official said.
The move is a part of the government's phase-wise plans
to shift Central Secretariat Service officers, who have
completed their tenure in a particular ministry. One of the
objectives of the policy is to allow officers gain exposure to
various challenging situations at various ministries, he said.
The officers, who are due to superannuate within next two
years, have been exempted from the move.
Two officials each from Consumer Affairs, Disinvestment,
Telecommunication, Expenditure, Labour and Employment, and
Mines departments, Development of North Eastern Region, Earth
Sciences, Petroleum and Natural gas, Power and Women and Child
Development ministries, and Union Public Service Commission
are also on the list.
