Work, not dynasty, matters: Deepender Hooda

Rohtak (Haryana), May 5, 2009: Leaning on their father's
legacy is what comes easily to most political scions, but
Deepender Singh Hooda prefers to bank on his own work as he
seeks re-election from Rohtak Lok Sabha constituency.
The 31-year-old son of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder
Singh Hooda says he has increased bed-capacity at hospitals,
added more primary and secondary schools, got approval for
opening a branch of the premier All India Institute of Medical
Sciences and set up an Indian Institute of Management.
"In democracy, people are supreme. They elect the
candidates. It is the work done by a representative that helps
him in getting people's support. Dynasty can only give you
recognition for a shorter period but it is the work that lasts
long," Hooda told PTI in an interview.
Deepender has been re-nominated by the Congress party from
Rohtak Parliamentary constituency.
"I believe in working for the people. As a people's
representative, I do my work sincerely. I am asking votes on
the basis of the development done in the field of education,
employment and medicine," he said.
Asked about his father's influence, he said: "Of course,
my father's image helps me. But people also know him for the
development work done by him. The more you work, the more
chances you have of getting elected."
Deepender, a post-graduate from the UK, also thinks that
youngsters should be given a chance to join politics.
"Youngsters are the future of the country. They can also
do a good job in politics if given an opportunity," he said.
A total of 12.59 lakh voters in Rohtak, will exercise
their franchise here during the polls scheduled here on May
seven.
Out of 15 other contenders, Hooda's main opposition are
Indian National Lok Dal candidate Nafe Singh Rathee and
Krishan Murti of the Haryana Janhit Congress during the Lok
Sabha polls.
However, Hooda is confident about his victory in the
polls. "HJC does not have any base in Haryana. People have
seen development work done by Congress party and will surely
choose me," Deepender added.
